Installation
The Outlook Archive Add-in comes with an installer program. If you already have Windows Installer installed (this is the case for Windows XP), you can download the MSI version, otherwise you may want to try the zipped version. Please make sure Outlook is not running while you install the add-in.
Note that the Microsoft .NET Framework must be installed prior to installing the Outlook Archive Add-in. You can download it here.
Usage
After installation two new items will be added to your Outlook application window:
- a button labeled Archive on the main toolbar
- a menu command called Archiving ... in the Tools menu bar
You should now create an archive folder in your Outlook directory structure. This is the folder where archived messages will be stored. You can create subfolders for individual contacts now or have the add-in do that for you later.
Now you should choose Tools|Archiving ... in the menu to make your settings. Be sure to pick the desired archive folder and/or select how the archive add-in should determine the correct subfolder for each message. If you leave the archive folder blank, you may not be able to send messages correctly.
If you click the Archive button, the currently selected message(s) will be stored in your archive folder according to the options set. Also, as soon as you send a message, a copy of it will automatically be stored in the right folder. If the add-in could not determine a suitable folder for a message, a dialog will pop up (if enabled) and leave you a choice on what to do.
