Hike along the 草嶺古道 (Cao ling ancient trail), which leads from 福隆 (Fu long) in Taipei county to 大里 (Da li) in Yilan county. This trail used to be the main connection between the two sides of the mountain range.

  • 雄鎮蠻煙摩碣 ("Boldly quell the wild mists" inscription). The four characters 雄鎮蠻煙 were inscribed by a government official in 1867 to fend off the nasty fog in the area.

  • Rest area at the top of the pass (啞口). The trail that continues in the back is called 桃源谷步道 (Tao yuan valley trail) where we went later that day. (The little hut in the back is where the next two pictures were taken.)
